Meta Launches Oakley Smart Glasses with AI and 3K Video to Target Performance Market, Here’s the Price in India

Meta has unveiled its latest leap into the wearable technology space with the launch of its first-ever Oakley-branded smart glasses, blending artificial intelligence, high-resolution video, and athletic utility. The new Oakley Meta HSTN glasses mark a strategic expansion of Meta’s vision for AI-driven eyewear, designed specifically for active users and sports enthusiasts.

Announced this week, the Oakley Meta HSTN model will debut at a premium price of $499, with a wider lineup of Oakley-branded models starting at $399, scheduled for release later this summer. The premium edition — featuring gold accents and Oakley’s signature PRIZM lenses — will be available for preorder beginning July 11.

At today’s USD to INR exchange rate of 1 USD = ₹86.58, the Oakley Meta HSTN smart glasses launched at $499 would cost approximately ₹43,203, while the standard Oakley models starting at $399 would be around ₹34,545.

“This is our first step into the performance category,” said Alex Himel, Meta’s head of wearables. “There’s more to come.”

Unlike the lifestyle-focused Ray-Ban smart glasses that Meta launched earlier, the Oakley smart glasses are designed with athletic performance and durability in mind. The frames are built to withstand active conditions, offering IPX4 water resistance, and include sport-optimized designs that reflect Oakley’s long-standing identity in the athletics world.

The smart glasses come equipped with a front-facing 3K camera, a major upgrade over the 1080p resolution in Meta’s previous Ray-Ban models. Users can capture high-definition photos and videos hands-free, powered by a battery that lasts up to eight hours, with a companion charging case adding an extra 48 hours of use.

Meta has also integrated its powerful Meta AI into the glasses, providing users with a wide range of smart functionalities. These include real-time object recognition, hands-free voice queries, music playback, live translations, and answers based on what the user sees. The glasses are also fitted with open-ear speakers and multi-microphone arrays for immersive audio and crystal-clear calls.

In a strong push toward athletic branding, Meta has partnered with French football superstar Kylian Mbappé to headline the product’s marketing campaign, aiming to attract a younger, sport-focused demographic. The glasses will be available in five color and lens combinations, including prescription-compatible options.

The launch also underscores Meta’s deepening relationship with EssilorLuxottica, the parent company of both Oakley and Ray-Ban. Building on the success of their Ray-Ban smart glasses — which have already sold over two million units — Meta and EssilorLuxottica have now set an ambitious target of 10 million annual smart glasses sales by 2026.

While Meta remains a leader in the current smart eyewear space, the competition is quickly catching up. Google has been testing its XR glasses with built-in displays, and Apple is rumored to be developing its own smart eyewear, adding pressure to Meta’s push for innovation.

By embedding AI into practical, everyday applications and aligning with globally recognized performance brands like Oakley, Meta aims to keep its lead in the wearable tech race.

“Smart glasses are no longer just accessories,” said Himel. “They’re becoming essential tools for how people interact with the world.”
