Instagram Broadcast Channels Go Global with Introduction of New ‘Collaborators’ Feature
Meta has taken another significant stride in improving and extending its creator-focused offerings, with the announcement of the global roll-out of Instagram’s broadcast channels and the introduction of a new ‘Collaborators’ feature.

The broadcast channels, initially launched in February, have already seen a great deal of engagement. These channels are public, one-to-many messaging platforms, enabling creators to communicate with their followers on a large scale. Creators can share their latest updates and behind-the-scenes moments, and even create polls for fan feedback through a variety of mediums, including text, voice notes, photo, and video. The new Collaborators feature expands upon this interactivity, permitting creators to invite other creators or fans to partake in their broadcast channel.
“Whether it’s an expert interview or a casual hangout, fans can now follow conversations between their favorite creators and their special guests. This is now available globally,” the company stated.
In addition, Meta has set its sights on refining the broadcast channel experience. The company is experimenting with several features, including the facility for creators to use question prompts to gather responses and feedback from followers. Another potential addition is a dedicated channels tab in the inbox to help users easily access their joined channels and discover new ones. However, these features are still in their early testing stages and are currently not available in India.
Meta is also looking into new controls to assist creators in managing and promoting their broadcast channels. These features include setting an expiration date and time for the channel, the inclusion of a moderator to oversee members, messages, and content, and the possibility of sharing a link or preview to Stories to encourage follower engagement.
While the broadcast channels are public, only the creators can send messages, and followers can interact by reacting to content and voting in polls. This design ensures that the channels maintain a clear focus on the creator’s content while still fostering community engagement.
The company’s effort to enhance the interactive relationship between creators and their followers indicates a significant shift in social media, further encouraging active user participation and forging a more immersive and engaging experience. As the global rollout progresses, it will be fascinating to observe how creators and their communities respond to these developments.
